What Is The UKCA?

How does the UKCA affect PPE products? With the UK’s decision to leave the European Union (EU) has come many different regulations that will need to be adhered to. And while the list of changes is significant, there will also be a new standard for UK products when it comes to quality control. This is where the United Kingdom Conformity Assessment Mark (UKCA) comes into play. Before all of the new changes, PPE products were required to have the CE mark to be allowed for trade in the EU. Without, products could not freely be traded within the European markets. However, with the exit from the EU, the UK will now look towards UKCA for the same quality assurance.

It is important to note that PPE products that are to be traded in Great Britain, which consists of England, Wales and Scotland, will need to have the UKCA mark. Essentially, over the next year and a half, the change will take place to secure the same process that was usually necessary for the CE mark.

UKCA and PPE: Important Safety Assurance

The standard that CE marking has set will still strictly be applied for UKCA marking and the rigorous testing will remain the same. Additionally, UK regulations will still require manufacturers and other responsible parties to provide evidence of conformity. The conformity to the UKCA mark simply allows the PPE products legal rights to be distributed. It also offers peace of mind that the correct compliance procedures were followed. Having PPE products that are suitable for use by the general public is highly important when it comes to supplying these products. When investing in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), you should always ensure that you are investing in products that have the correct marks.

At Healthy Meds, our client’s health and safety is our number one priority. This is why we don’t supply sub par PPE products. Our clients can rest assured that the products in our online PPE shop have passed the necessary compliance tests and are legally allowed to be sold.

Responsible PPE Trade

This might sound like an obvious statement, however, more and more fake-marked products are making the rounds. This is especially true since the start of the Covid 19 pandemic. For many opportunistic groups, making and selling cheap PPE products seemed like a good way to make fast money. It is important to take care in buying from reputable wholesalers when buying PPE, considering how much is at stake! Healthy Meds has been around for much longer than the Coronavirus and are established as high quality PPE suppliers in the UK.

Our PPE products have undergone rigorous testing, including abrasion resistance, tear strength, puncture and anti-static properties, along with tests on the overall performance of the product in terms of the application. Because of this, our clients can trust that the products bought for their own safety are, in fact, really protecting them. Clients also have a responsibility towards sensible shopping when it comes to PPE.

Leading Wholesale PPE Suppliers UK Providing UKCA Marked PPE

Since these changes are gradually being implemented, it is important to note that from 1 January 2021, only new products that enter the market are required to have the UKCA mark. Products that had existing CE marks prior to this time will still be accepted in the market until 1 January 2022. From 1 January 2022, the UKCA mark items will be sold on the UK market. From this date until 1 January 2023, products can either have the UKCA mark on a label attached to the products, or an accompanying document. From 1 January 2023 onwards, the UKCA mark will have to be affixed directly to the product.
