What is CE Certified PPE?

What is CE Certified PPE?

Taking a Look At CE Certified PPE

The CE Marking Association specialises in product compliance and CE Marking. But what does that specifically entail really? Well, the CE mark is a symbol that is affixed to products to indicate that the product complies with the relevant EU legislation. This enables free movements of products within the European market. The CE mark is affixed by manufacturer, importer or other authorised representative that is required to ensure and declare product compliance. Products that fall into the scope of a European Directive that require the CE mark have to have the CE mark on their products. Therefore, the CE mark is not a requirement for all products for all companies.

The CE marking indicates that the manufacturer has ensured that their products meet EU health, safety or environment requirements. Furthemore, it indicates the products compliance with EU regulations, which in turn allows the free movement within the European Economic Area (EEA).

CE Marking Reassurance

Essentially, by placing the EC mark on their products, manufacturers are declaring, on their sole responsibility, conformity with all of the legal requirements to achieve CE marking. Furthermore, they are ensuring the validity of their product being sold throughout the EEA. It is important to note that this also applies to products made in third countries but are sold in the EEA and Turkey. Additionally, some CE marks will also indicate a 4 digit ID number to symbolise the CE certification process.

All in all, having CE certified products ensures peace of mind that the products you are buying are legally allowed to be distributed. Additionally, they have undergone the necessary compliance procedures that ensure that the products are suitable for public use. It  only stands to reason that when investing in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), you should always ensure that you are investing in CE marked PPE.

CE Marking Legal Requirements

So, what is CE certified PPE? Well, 2016/42 European Regulation (EU) 2016/425 covers the process for CE Marking Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This is described as any device or appliance designed to be worn or held by an individual for protection against one or more health and safety hazards. It is important to note that in Europe, all PPE must comply with the Personal Protective Equipment Regulation, (EU) 2016/425, and show the CE marking. However, since many manufacturers are supplying only since the Covid-19 pandemic started, this could be unfamiliar territory for them. Although, in order to remain safe, consumers do have some responsibility to ensure that they buy CE marked PPE.

CE marked PPE has undergone rigorous testing, including abrasion resistance, tear strength, puncture and anti-static properties, along with tests on the overall performance of the product in terms of the application. This is to ensure that when consumers buy these products for their own safety, they are indeed protected.

Avoid Fake CE Certified PPE Products

What is CE Certified PPE?

Don’t be fooled by ingenuine CE markings on PPE either, as these products have become prevalent lately as well. All EN-certified products should feature a label with everything you need to know. The information on the CE label on your PPE is very specific and also a legal requirement. Each product type has its own specific labelling and/or marking requirements. All of this information is absolutely essential if you are to ensure your PPE is truly genuine and protects against the specific risks in your work environment. Don’t allow sub par PPE products into your office, home or healthcare environment.
